Prior to founding The Edge, Torrie worked as a member of the Special Operations Forces (SOF) mental conditioning staff at IMG. As a tactical mental conditioning coach, she was responsible for training U.S. Army Special Operations aviators, flight crews and support personnel to utilize mental skills (e.g., attention control, emotion regulation, energy management and mental rehearsal) to optimize operator leadership and performance. She also collaborated with physical therapists, dietitians and strength and conditioning coaches to develop and deliver comprehensive, individualized training plans for soldiers.

Torrie completed her doctoral training at the University of Florida’s Department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology and specialized in Sport and Exercise Psychology/Biobehavioral Science. During her graduate career at the University of Florida, Torrie acted as a sport psychology consultant for the University of Florida women’s rugby team and the Gainesville Roller Rebels roller derby league.

In addition to her diverse applied sport psychology consulting work, Torrie has extensive experience conducting cutting-edge sport and performance psychology research. She uses a combination of self-report indices, physiological measures (e.g., heart rate and eye-tracking) and movement analyses to understand how psychological factors, such as emotion and attention, can be modified to enhance performance. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at both national and international scientific conferences. Torrie also taught undergraduate courses in sport psychology and motor learning at the University of Florida.

As an athlete, Torrie played NCAA Division III field hockey and lacrosse at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA and has completed numerous half marathons and adventure races. She played internationally competitive roller derby for 7.5 years for teams including the Jacksonville Roller Girls, Rat City Roller Derby and Charm City Roller Girls. Torrie is passionate about helping others achieve their sport and fitness goals and is excited to bring her knowledge and skill set to help performers in the Baltimore/DC area.
